Small Groups Philosophy

FCBC small groupWe are at a time in history where many churches are finding that Sunday School has fallen out of favor with most people. Individuals today are hesitant to commit to long drawn out, indefinite classes. Yet, churches need groups that foster care, accountability, and discipleship; thus, the rise in popularity of small groups. However, most churches struggle with their small group ministry. How do we propose to get around it? The answer: Plug-and-Play, Interest-based small groups that have starting and ending points.

  1. Interest-based: These small groups will be based upon natural attraction that has to do with phase of life, hobbies, interests, even sporting events (e.g., Monday Night Football small group, Supper Club/Foodies small group, Crossfit small group, Pokemon-Go, etc.).
  2. The groups will have definite starting and ending dates.
  3. They will be truly plug-and-play. This means the leader needs very little training and preparation time. Each leader will be provided Youtube videos and study guides. Basically open a bag of chips, play a Youtube video and begin!
  4. Many people complain that they would attend small groups IF the Pastor was their leader. Well with the Youtube video, we will have a pastor teaching the material. All you have to do is read the study questions and encourage discussion.
  5. Interest-based small groups are effective as entry points for new friends. What could be more natural than inviting someone over for a bite to eat or to watch the game? This makes it easy to introduce others to Christ and our church through Small Groups.

  • Empowering – Equipping, tools, hints, techniques. We will provide everything you need, even a recipe for chicken wings if you want one!
  • Entertaining – Fun! Not boring.
  • Enjoyable – Pleasant. Satisfying. Glad you came!
